Biography
Ted barrett was born in london, england and emigrated to canada in 1968. He lived in toronto for several years, then shortly after his marriage in 1972, he moved to nova scotia.
he had studied photography for years, but found he could not put enough of himself in his work. After taking an art course with 'ron goodwin', noted maritime artist, ted was delighted to discover that painting was the answer he was looking for. He has studied art in workshops for the past 25 years and paints in oils, acrylics, watercolour and pastel.
in the 'annapolis valley exhibition' ted won first prize in the oil competition, and another first in the 'apple blossom festival of art' for portraiture. He has participated with other maritime artists in the local "paint the town" at annapolis royal for the past 4 years since its inception. He exhibits mainly with a group i.E. Vans , arcac and our local group 'artists' circle' in nova scotia
he has paintings hanging in private collections across the united states, canada, england, australia and germany.
ted says "i grew up in a place that was gray and colourless most of the time. My paintings reflect the enjoyment i get from the light and colour of the landscape of nova scotia, and the changing moods of the surrounding sea." Ted's paintings can be seen all year at the "falcourt inn" in nictaux and in the summer at the artists' circle studio in margaretsville, nova scotia
he lives in greenwood square near kingston, nova scotia.
