Paul Andre Babin

I was born in a small village of northern New-Brunswick, Canada named Atholville on October 21-1955. My father was a barber, painter, musician and a folk artist. My mother was a hairdresser and homemaker.
Influenced by my father's art, I started painting when I was 11 years old and after graduating from high school in 1973, I decided to study fine arts at the Universite de Moncton in New Brunswick. I completed my Bachelor of fine arts degree in 1977 with a major in painting and minor in photography.

Awards and Accomplishments

At the present moment and for the last 15 years I have been employed as technical sales for a international manufacturer of cement installation products for ceramic, natural stone and concrete restoration. When specialized contractors were using our cementitious products to install ceramic, I was always amazed at the way they would trowel, make patterns and designs on the floors. I often wondered how it would be interesting not to cover these trowel marks and forms with tile. So in 1996 I decided to experiment and introduce these specialty products in my paintings. The product that I am presently using is a very fast setting and curing cementitious adhesive. It is made of special hydraulic cement that is mixed with a flexible latex liquid. Once hardened it is hard but retains flexibility and very good bonding properties to plywood or canvas. I am using acrylic paint, cementitious adhesives and specialty polymers to create texture, transparencies and depth in my art.
Media exposure:
In September 2003, a 3 minutes television interview about my art has appeared on the 6 o'clock news, Radio-Canada, CBC Moncton N.B.
In October 2003, I did a 15 minutes interview with TV5 television which is televised in countries such as Canada, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Africa, Asia, United States, Asia etc.
In 1978 the Culture department of the province of New-Brunswick purchased one of my paintings and printed 3000 posters that were distributed to all public buildings in Canada.
