Biography
Brian Porter was born in Nova Scotia, and studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax from 1966 until 1970. His work has been exhibited in selected galleries across Canada, including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. He paints images that reflect his emotions and state of mind; in this regard, he considers his paintings to be a ?visual journal.? His imagery is derived from chance, dream, intuition, instinct and superstition, creating a personal mythology with recurring characters and objects. It is important to Porter to explore different painting and drawing materials, as well as to engage in the mysteries of his symbolism.
Brian Porter was the subject of a film by the National Film Board of Canada in 1976. In 1981, a documentary of Mr. Porter?s work was produced by CBC Television.
