Born in Invercargill New Zealand... majored in Art at Southland Boys High School Moved to Lower Hutt just out of Wellington New Zealand in 1969. No formal training other than at SBHS. Also has a Diploma in Cartooning (Through ICS) Started showing a keen interest in watercolours when influenced by the work of close family friend Jack Barnes ,and the work of well known Invercargill artist John Husband.
Bruce's love of Cromwell Central Otago lead to several visits there and with the help of friends Noel and Alex King arranged a solo exhibit and started selling work in the area. This also lead to several commission works and Bruce sold over 30 paintings of the area.
These were paintings mainly of old Cromwell , the old stone buildings and well known land marks from the gold rush era. Bruce also started working in pencil and produced several drawings that were soon purchased by the locals keen to have his work depicting this area.
Bruce started a series of works in the Wairarapa (Lower North Island NZ) of which were exhibited at local venues and after a solo exhibition this also lead to several commission works. It was about this time that Bruce started showing an interest in Bird paintings the inspiration being the work of word renowned New Zealand Wild life painter Raymond Ching.
Bruce spent some time in Melbourne Australia, then moved to Cape Breton Island when he now lives with his wife Gloria.
Already he has done some commission works since arriving in Marion Bridge and at present has his works hanging in Gardeners Gallery Sydney.
He is at present working on new paintings depicting the area he lives in Mira, Marion Bridge and is looking forward to showing an exhibition in the fall of 2000
